The National Transport Council (CTP) announced that, starting last Saturday, users of public transport must board the bus and taxi units with a mask and/or face shield correctly placed. However, despite the fact that it is a mandatory measure, there is a vulnerable population that is exempt, such as children under 3 years of age and older adults or people with physical disability or in extreme poverty, that prevent them from using these health safety devices.
The Ministry of Health and the Public Transport Council anticipated that there are vulnerable populations, therefore, they will be able to enter the units without personal protective equipment.
According to what Manuel Vega Villalobos, executive director of the CTP, explains, although the driver of these services has the power to indicate to the user without a mask not to board until one is put on, “Yes, the service must be provided to people and older adults in extreme poverty or with a physical disability that makes it difficult for them to use a mask.”
