The proposal was presented by six congressmen, including the conservative Adriana Magali Matiz, and Edward Rodríguez, from the Democratic Center, to protect the rights of people with disabilities and the labor sector.

The plenary of the Chamber on Tuesday approved the proposal with which six congressmen propose the creation of a commission dedicated to monitoring people with disabilities and their caregivers, and promoting and protecting their rights.

The parliamentarians who advocate this matter are: Adriana Magali Matiz and Juan Carlos Wills, from the Conservative Party, Edward Rodríguez, from the Democratic Center, José Daniel López and Ángela Sánchez Leal, from Cambio Radical, and Christian José Moreno, from the Partido de la U.

The idea was born from a letter that the National Federation of Caregivers sent to the House of Representatives on May 12, in which they asked for this proposal. “Although they recognize that there are currently international conventions, ratified by Colombia, extensive legislation and jurisprudence to guarantee the rights of persons with disabilities, it is no less true that this population continues to face an environment of high vulnerability to their rights. it does not allow them and their caregivers to consolidate a life project”, the proposition reads.
