The state government of Kerala, India, has raised the motor vehicle tax exemption ceiling for persons with disabilities from ₹7 lakh to ₹15 Lakh.

State Transport Minister C. P. John announced the statutory modification in an official release, confirming that the expanded relief applies to vehicles purchased for or by persons with disabilities.

The progressive tax policy was originally formulated during the state government’s revised budget address for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

The state authorities enacted targeted legislative amendments to the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act and issued an updated statutory notification that officially supersedes the regulatory framework established in 2022.

The updated limit was announced in the state’s revised 2026–27 budget. To implement the decision, the government amended the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act and issued a new notification revising the 2022 order, according to the minister.
