Events held across Western Australia to celebrate the 2026 International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) will be bolstered by $100,000 in grant funding from the Cook Labor Government.
IDPwD is a United Nations-supported day that is celebrated every year on 3 December. It aims to increase public awareness and understanding of people with disability and celebrate
their achievements and contributions to the community.
The theme in WA in 2026 is Valued. Included. Leading.
This theme reinforces the message that when people are valued for their strengths and included in community life, they are empowered to influence change, contribute to the community and lead in their own way.
Community groups, not-for-profit organisations and local government authorities are eligible to apply for grants of up to $1,250.
Grants will be awarded to recipients who run initiatives and events that aim to raise awareness and understanding across the broader community about the strengths and achievements of people with disability. Organisations are strongly encouraged to include people with lived experience in the planning and running of their events.

“IDPwD is an important opportunity to increase public understanding and awareness of disability and how we can all work together to ensure our communities are more inclusive.
“These Cook Labor Government grants elevate local events and activities across WA to celebrate the achievements and valuable contributions people with disability make to our communities.
“This year’s WA theme highlights the importance of the leadership role people with disability play within our community.
“Organisations which involve people with lived experience at all stages of their events develop and deliver better initiatives.”
The IDPwD grants support the vision of our State Disability Strategy – to build a more inclusive Western Australia and empower people with disability to participate meaningfully in all parts of society.
