In a first for Manning Regional Art Gallery, artworks from its current exhibition, Feathered: Birds in Myth and Memory, are available for all to enjoy through touch, sound and imagination.
Created by Vision Australia in collaboration with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, works from the exhibition have been brought to life via a range of tactile sources. The result is improved access to this amazing collection of works for people in the local community with vision impairment or living with disability.
“This is a great opportunity to explore one of our most exciting exhibitions in a truly sensory and engaging way”, explained Paul De Szell, MidCoast Council’s Director of Liveable Communities.
“Guided sessions have been designed especially for schools, community disability groups and people living with dementia, allowing participants to connect with the beauty and creativity of the exhibition in a really unique, tactile and imaginative way”.
Accessible sessions are available each Wednesday and Friday for the remainder of the exhibition, which closes on Saturday 29 November. Bookings are required.
Feathered: Birds in Myth and Memory brings together artworks from talented local and regional artists alongside a curation of key works drawn from the state collection of the Art Gallery of NSW.
“It’s a rare opportunity to view works from renowned artists including Brett Whiteley, Sydney Long and Del Kathryn Barton, that you’d normally have to travel to see”, Paul added.
