More than one billion people live with disabilities worldwide. Today, December 3, is the United Nations International Day for Persons with Disabilities, a day to promote the equal participation of persons with disabilities and to take action for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development.
On this day, Disability Insider is announcing the partnership with International Disability Organizations to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The theme this year is “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 World”.
“Women with disabilities in India have always contributed to the disability movement, but their role has been underplayed. I am glad to say that today women are equal leaders and in some way are leading the movement” said Prof. Asha Hans, SMRC

“The humanity of cities is achieved by equality between people in society. Persons with disabilities need someone who understands him, breaks the barriers, and opens the door wide for him. Based on my 30 years of experience in the universal access field, I believe that there is a long way to open doors in front of disabled people, especially after the Coronavirus pandemic. It has been demonstrated the importance of the engineer’s role during design, and his interest in the weakest group to serve all types of society.” said Mukhtar AlShibani, AlModon Engineering Consultancy
AlModon Engineering Consultancy was established in Riyadh in 2006. A team of specialized technical experts, collaborating with international experts specializing in engineering and universal access, set up the consultancy. It provides services such that the future projects in the Arab World are more dynamic, humanitarian, and in line with engineering standards and universal access.
“Connecting and accessing information is now more critical in times of the coronavirus crisis. We need to design technology accessible for everyone and the environment for independent living and social participation of older people and persons with disabilities in good health, comfort and safety” said Aqeel Qureshi, CEO, Techbility.
Techbility is a customer experience agency delivering accessible websites, mobile apps, research on assistive technology, and DiDRR. For more information, go to Techbility’s website.
“Whatever your needs, you are unique. Your ambition is not affected by your disability. My message to the world is to believe in capabilities of persons with disabilities, as they refuse pity look, which has been shown in some people’s eyes. Our capabilities and our ability exceed limits” said Mr. Mufereh, working experience with an international consultant in the Netherlands (Mr. Leo Koemann)
