The $12.9 billion infrastructure investment announced, and the $288 million committed for skills training will put thousands of South Australians in new, well paid jobs during COVID-19.

Premier Steven Marshall said the JobTrainer initiative combined with Skilling South Australia represented a $288 million co-investment by the State and Federal Governments in a skills-led recovery from COVID-19.

“The investment in JobTrainer comes on the back of our Skilling South Australia initiative that has seen South Australia outperform the nation in apprentice and traineeship commencements,” said Premier Marshall.

“Support for our state’s growth industries and the training sector will help young South Australians transition from low-cost training to sustainable employment.

“We also want to encourage more young people and job seekers to develop the skills required for roles in South Australian growth industries, both in our metropolitan and regional communities.

“We have a strong plan to build the workforce in industries where there is demand for skilled workers and assist people to advance their careers.”

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said the Marshall Liberal Government had introduced a range of initiatives that would further assist employers and RTOs maximise the benefits of employing and training skilled people.

“Under JobTrainer we are announcing funding for industry projects that drive employment growth and are designed by business in collaboration with the State Government, said Minister Pisoni.

“Project examples include support for recruitment and on-boarding activity, mentoring, additional training and certification, personal protective clothing and pre-employment checks.

“Registered training organisations (RTOs) and businesses can also access funding under the scheme, if they are able to support JobTrainer students into further education or employment.

“With this support, backed by our investment in the Skilled Careers – Explore Your Passion advertising campaign, there has never been a better time to invest in a skilled workforce.

“Put simply, we want to work with industry to ensure that you’ve got all the information that you need on what’s available,” Minister Pisoni said.

JobTrainer priority industry sectors include aged or disability care, childcare, ICT, cyber security, defence industries and creative industries.
