U.S. Embassy in Georgia donates assistive aids

The U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC), through its Humanitarian Assistance Program, handed over walking aids for use by persons with in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, Georgia.

As the United States marks Disability Awareness Month, the U.S. government continue support to the social inclusion of people with disabilities at home and abroad.

ODC purchased 50 manual wheelchairs, 40 crutches, 20 walking sticks, and 20 walking frames for a government-owned organization “Union of Investments and Humanitarian Projects,” which will distribute the equipment in Mtskheta, Tianeti, Dusheti, and Kazbegi municipalities of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region.

Many of the beneficiaries are internally displaced persons (IDP) from the 2008 Russian-Georgian war, who are living in various IDP settlements located in the region, accroding to the US embassy statement.
