For the fourth consecutive year, the National Council for Disability (CONADIS), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), delivered the Seal of Good Inclusive Practices for People with Disabilities “RD Includes”, this time through a live broadcast from the YouTube Live platform.

In this 2020 edition, 101 actions or practices were recognized from 42 entities from the public and private sectors that, as part of their policies, make visible and promote the development and full inclusion of people with disabilities and their families in Dominican society.

Magino Corporán Lorenzo, director of CONADIS, expressed his optimism and satisfaction for arriving at a 4th installment that exceeded all expectations, despite the situations in which the world finds itself due to the Covid pandemic 19. Likewise, Corporán Lorenzo urged the entities to continue opening the paths of inclusion to achieve the reality of a fair society, suitable for the full enjoyment of all people, without distinction of conditions.

The RD Includes Seal’s main objective is promoting the application of the national and international regulatory framework regarding the rights of people with disabilities, through the recognition of all those good practices that promote the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the different spheres of life.

UNDP, in the person of Ms. Inka Matilla, resident representative in the Dominican Republic, thanked all the actors applying for good practices, especially the private sector, which each year increases its presence of actions focused on inclusion and universal accessibility.

“For UNDP, inclusion is a fundamental part of sustainable development, it is impossible to achieve the SDGs of the 2030 agenda without making progress in this area of inclusion. In the current context, it is necessary to ensure a view of inclusion in the strategies of the socio-economic recovery of COVID-19 “said Mattila, also emphasizing that” leaving aside the population with disabilities translates into the waste of great talents and, consequently, in significant losses in terms of productivity ”.

To date, the RD Includes Seal had an accumulated total of 289 recognized good practices, from the first year, to which some 101 more were added.

As in previous versions, all recognized practices are framed within the following areas: Universal Accessibility, Capacity Building, Awareness, Education, Health, Justice, Participation and awarded in the Gold, Silver or Bronze categories, whose Evaluation criteria are focused on: (i) alignment with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), (ii) ethics and replication, (iii) sustainability and (iv) the effectiveness of the action.
