Last week, members of the Health Crisis Committee of July 9 NGO, together with representatives of institutions that work with people with disabilities and the Deliberative Council, offered a press conference in the Hall of the Americas of the Municipal Palace, regarding the creation of a protocol for the care of people with disabilities in the event of Covid-19 infections, which was developed jointly by the parties.

Opening the press conference, María José Gentile, president of the local Deliberant and member of the Health Crisis Committee, pointed out that this protocol created for people with disabilities who may contract Coronavirus, “arose due to the concern of different institutions, because although the Province has considered these situations, it is always important to evaluate particular situations. Various meetings were held with the Ministry of Community Development and different entities and in this way a protocol was drawn up that can now be applied both in the Hospital and in private establishments,” she said.

Later, Councilor Nancy Grizutti, a member of the HCD Disability Commission, pointed out that it was very important to consider this need, “so that people with disabilities are observed in a particular way”, and especially celebrated the possibility of having worked together with the Health Crisis Committee and the Secretariat for Community Development. She thanked the sign language teacher Silvia Séttimo and Dr. Victoria Caputo for their collaboration, who prepared the protocol, according to the different patient profiles provided by the families of people with disabilities.

Secretary for Community Development, María del Carmen Fernández, stressed that the premise is that “each person with a disability fill out this form to know in advance the needs of each patient and their references for treatment.”

She also highlighted the fact that this protocol “exceeds Covid-19 and is useful for the care of other pathologies.” And she pointed out that the aforementioned forms are available in all the institutions involved in this task, as well as in the Disability Directorate, dependent on the Community Development Secretariat, which has its headquarters at 835 Balcarce street.
