During the first months of 2020, more than a thousand reports of missing children were received in Ukraine. Currently, 18 children are sought for in the country. This was reported by the Office of the Ukrainian Ombudsman.

“During the first month of 2020, the territorial police departments received more than a thousand reports of missing children,” the ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova said.

Currently, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, 18 children are wanted.

It is also noted that about 90% of missing children can be found within the first days. However, others are more likely to be victims of violence or crime.

As we reported earlier, UNICEF Ukraine and Ukrainian Child Rights NGO Network are deeply considered due to the fact that 42,000 children, including children with disabilities, were sent back home from the boarding schools, and other child-care institutions as a result of COVID-19 measures taken by the Ukrainian Government.

UNICEF urges Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers to apply comprehensive measures in order to support families and children families financially and through services at the local level.
