Australian Government partners with private sector to reach out people at risk

The Australian Government is working with the private sector to encourage Australians who are doing it tough to seek help while in isolation and physically distancing.

Major retailers Coles, IGA and Woolworths are among the businesses which will help spread the word about support services available to people at risk.

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said the Government funds a range of dedicated online and telephone-based services.

“We have specialist support available for older Australians, carers and for people experiencing family, domestic or sexual violence,” Minister Ruston said.

“We have also launched a dedicated helpline for people with disabilities who are concerned or have questions about coronavirus and how restrictions may impact on their individual circumstances.

“These services play a vital role in supporting the community and it is so important that during these uncertain times all Australians are aware that help remains available.

“I commend these businesses that have gone the extra mile to ensure Australians are informed and supported and I encourage all members of the community to do the same.”

The Morrison Government has committed $150 million to boost support for Australians experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence due to the fallout from coronavirus and more than $90 million for services for people with a disability.

Major retailers will distribute flyers with contact numbers for the Government’s crisis and front line support services in their stores and through online orders, which are expected to reach millions of Australian shoppers.
