A new helpline has been launched in Russia to help people who are deaf or hard of hearing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Helpline operators will accept applications from people who are deaf and hard of hearing for the delivery of food and medicine.

The application can be sent in text format (SMS message) or in the form of video messages in sign language. The volunteers will go to the address and deliver the essential items.

“We receive SMS from a person with hearing disability, we process the request, send a volunteer with a tablet for video relay communication, and contact the sign language interpreter to facilitate the communication between a volunteer and a deaf person,” said Julia Peregudova, head of the MGER “Good in Action” fund.

Helpline phone: +7 (964) 502-21-32.
