Personal assistance for people with disabilities has been launched, according to the Bulgarian Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

Since September 1, the Personal Assistance mechanism has come into force, under which people with disabilities are entitled to an individual assessment of their needs. The assessment is based on an examination of the functional disability of the individual with a disability related to their health status, as well as the existence of barriers to daily life and other activities.

The ministry  explains that the number of beneficiaries of personal assistance is not limited – every person with a disability who meets the conditions laid down in the Personal Assistance Act and who has been individually assessed and issued a referral is entitled to it .

According to the law, the provider of personal assistance is the municipality according to  the current address of the beneficiary. The mayors register the beneficiaries and the personal assistants  on the territory of the respective municipality.
