The first two of twelve houses in the art-estate for young people with disabilities “New Shores” in the region of Penza are expected to become operational in November this year. The initiator of the project, a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Maria Lvova-Belova, said that a set of participants applying for residence in the newly built art estate has already started. The competition is open to young people with disabilities from all regions of Russia.
The art estate with an area of 7.6 thousand square meters will be a cottage village, designed to accommodate young people with severe disabilities, as well as families who raise children with disabilities. In addition to residential buildings, educational and leisure centres, a spa complex, a canteen, a chapel, and other objects of social infrastructure will also be opened on its territory.
The government of the Penza region plans to create, on the basis of the New Shores project, Russia’s first comprehensive support and personal development system for people with disabilities, which, in addition to the New Shores art estate, will include a Veronika’s house for social support for young people with severe disabilities and a social quarter Louis Centre, where people with disabilities live in a commune and prepare for an independent life. as previously reported, the construction of the settlement “New Shores” for people with disabilities is underway in the village of Bogoslovka near Penza. According to the organisers of the project, it will be a mini-town with a fully accessible environment for the disabled people.
