Malaysia to improve lives of people with disabilities

Putrajaya – The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is open to suggestions or input on improving the well-being of people with disabilities in Malaysia.

To this end, its minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail  and her deputy Hannah Yeoh had organised several meetings and engagement sessions with related non-governmental organisations.

“The issue of the government neglecting people with disabilities does not arise,” the ministry said in a statement Friday (May 31).

It said it was studying a memorandum submitted by activists with disabilities who claimed their voices were not being heard.

The ministry pointed out that the Social Welfare Department, through the Persons with Disabilities Development Department, regularly organized empowerment programs and strived to improve its delivery of services and information to the community.
