Engineers at TGA (Young Guru Academy) and Turkish home appliances giant Vestel have developed a smart cane called, WeWalk.

WeWalk transforms the white cane into an innovative, foldable smart cane that can be integrated with smartphones. Unlike a traditional cane, WeWalk can detect obstacles that are above the chest and head levels with its ultrasonic sensor.

According to the World Health Organization there are over 250 million people with vision disabilities around the world. About 50 million of people who are blind use canes to help them walk.

WeWalk has an app on both the iOS and Android platforms for connecting with smartphones via Bluetooth. Once connected, users can customize its settings and manage third-party application integrations such as Google Maps. With all these features, the smart cane enables people who are blind to walk around without needing anyone’s help.

The cane can also pair with smart phones and get navigation data from google maps. It’s on sale now for about $350.
