Australia: Logan City Council today launched its Access and Inclusion Plan 2019 – 2022 to make a positive difference through quality services to all residents.
Community Services Director Katie Barton-Harvey said the four-year strategic plan contained 84 actions to guide Council’s commitment towards creating an accessible and inclusive city.
More than 36,000 external and internal stakeholders were consulted in the formulation of the plan.
This process included community conversation sessions and a Have Your Say campaign that featured engagement with disability specialist services, support groups and key Logan advocates.
Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows more than 17,000 people in Logan need daily assistance due to disability and more than 26,000 people in Logan provide unpaid help to someone with disability.
“The City of Logan’s Access and Inclusion Plan will guide our practices across the organisation and in the community,” Ms
Barton-Harvey said.
“We want to provide opportunities for all and give people of all abilities the chance to fulfil their potential in the City of Logan.
“The focus of the plan is to provide, design and create spaces to promote equality and dignity through access and inclusion.”
The plan is an accessible document that will be available in formats including Braille and large print.
