The St. Petersburg film studio “Giraffe” has begun the production of transparent masks for people with hearing disabilities, according to the film studio social media page.
People who are Deaf and hard of hearing are facing challenges during the coronavirus in public places. Because of this, people with hearing impairments found themselves in isolation: they do not see the people’s reactions and cannot read what they are told on their lips.
A language barrier has arisen between people with hearing disabilities and the people around them since there are words in sign language that can only be determined by articulation and facial expressions.
People with hearing disabilities report that they seem to have lost their sight as well.
The children’s social film studio representatives borrowed the idea of producing signage masks from their colleagues from other countries.
Such masks have transparent windows through which facial expressions and lip movements are visible.
The project organizers are ready to provide transparent masks to school teachers working with children with hearing impairments, share patterns of such masks, and invite those who can provide physical or material assistance in production.
