The Government of Western Australia has announced a further $14 million is being made available in 2020-21 through the WA Sector Transition Fund.

This funding will assist the State to transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The WA Sector Transition Fund is designed to safeguard the sustainability of the Western Australian disability sector and the success of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in WA.

Prior consultation with the sector identified a number of key focus areas to ensure sustainable growth of the market while promoting choice and control for people with disability, their family and carers.

In 2018-19, the State Government allocated $20.3 million of Sector Transition Funding, distributed in three phases over two years and targeting workforce development and operational issues for disability service providers arising from their transition to the NDIS.

Sector Transition Fund phase one grant recipients have reported positive impacts arising from their improved business systems and processes.

Projects funded under phase two and phase three are still underway.

“The McGowan Government is committed to ensuring the disability sector in Western Australia receives the appropriate support it needs to operate under the NDIS.” said Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson.
