
Yokohama City announced that 40 people, including users and staff, were newly infected with the new coronavirus at a facility for people with intellectual disabilities.
According to the city of department Yokohama, the social welfare corporation that manages the facility decides to suspend the use of day-care facilities for the time being.
The outbreak was revealed in the Hikarinooka, a facility for people with intellectual disabilities in Asahi Ward, Yokohama.
By the 3rd day, one staff member and two male users were found to have been infected three times in sequence at this facility.
The city dispatched a specialized team and carried out a simultaneous inspection targeting 160 people, including users and staff, and on the 4th, infections of 40 people, including users and staff.
Since many people have mild or no symptoms, the city will continue to observe their health condition.
According to the Yokohama city, some users with intellectual disabilities may find it challenging to wear masks, and the infection may have spread due to the close staffing of staff daily.
The city investigates whether the infection has spread further if a cluster of infected people.
Also, the social welfare corporation, Shirane Gakuen, which manages the facilities, will continue to operate the entrance facilities and other facilities but will suspend the use of day-care facilities for the time being.
