The Minister of Social Rights, Noemí Santana, denied on Wednesday in the plenary session of the Canary Islands Parliament that during the confinement there has been neglect of people with disabilities, as denounced by Poli Hernández, the deputy of the Popular group.
The deputy asked the counselor for measures to coordinate the care of people with disabilities who live in public, private or concerted residences and in sheltered flats, and especially in those places taking care of people with intellectual disabilities, autism and mental health issues, in the face of the Covid-19 crisis.
Poli Suárez affirmed that abandonment had occurred and insisted that one of the most important things that a government can do to protect these people is to consult them periodically, something that, he insisted, has not occurred during the confinement.
The deputy of the Popular group assured that the Canarian government has not implemented effective measures to protect these people, whose situation requires extra vigilance, reiterated Poli Suárez, who denounced that during the state of alarm, direct care services were canceled, reduced or suspended.
