In the State of Mexico, in central Mexico, there are 18 thousand 249 students with a disability, which should follow up on their studies from home during the health emergency, according to transparency data.
Of the total, 2,784 are from preschool, 13,000 form primary education and 114 ,000 in secondary education, there are 2,337 registered in the Units of Service of Support to the Regular Education of the State’s Educational subsystem, in the 2018-2019 school year.
This sector requires specialized care that varies according to the characteristics of their condition, which is why families have adapted to cope with isolation while providing care and attention to minors who require specific methods like Troncoso and Teach, Mexican sign language, boards of communication and audiovisual materials.
Work strategies including Didactic Playground are also applied to acquire the notion of numbers, narration of classic stories, easy reading method and implementation of a sensory classroom. Given all this, it is a challenge to adapt at home without the materials available in the rooms for people with disabilities such as mats, balls, brushes, pedal tricycle, geometric figures, perforated boards for sewing with thick needles and with a cord, bench carpenter with screws, nuts and hammer, among others.
There are Multiple Care Centers (CAM) in the State, attended by 913 students, 156 in preschool, 397 in primary and 360 in secondary; however, they closed since the beginning of the contingency to avoid contagion risks.
