The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s technical centre for services for persons with disabilities has launched the “Wasel” mobile app to allow people who are deaf or hard of hearing access to coronavirus information.

The new app is called Wasel and seeks to answer any coronavirus inquiries that people with hearing disabilities might have about the illness, from what symptoms to worry about to the closest testing centers to them.

“The app aims to support people who are deaf or heard of hearing who show symptoms of the virus reach the necessary health services”, said Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology

He added that the ministry is working to provide support to citizens by activating smart technology and providing trained technical personnel to provide services efficiently.

People with hearing disabilities can also reach ambulance, police or fire service through the app, by typing in their messages, which will be received by customer service agents on the other end that will then respond to users questions in sign language via app.

The service is available 24 hours a day, including providing support to those experiencing coronavirus symptoms through connecting them to the responsible government agencies to receive the necessary healthcare.

Wasel app is available for download for Android devices via the Google Play Store.
