Rubí starts an accompaniment service for people with disabilities

The Rubí City Council has launched a new free accompaniment service for people with disabilities who present conduct disorders related to the confinement.

The initiative, coordinated by the Office for the Attention of Functional Diversity, is aimed at children and young people under the age of 21 and at adults with little family support, who can prove the need to go out on the street for therapeutic reasons.

The service includes one-hour walks close to the hose. A worker from the Suara company will be in charge of accompanying the person with a disability and of guaranteeing at all times measures for preventing contagion of the COVID-19. This professional will have a protection equipment to carry out its task and will provide another one to the user.

The family requesting the service may choose between two schedules: from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday. At most, you can request two hours a week on different days.

To opt for this resource, you must call 637 831 056 (from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday), or send an email to oadf@ajrubi.cat. The City Council’s Office for Functional Diversity will be in charge of assessing whether the person for whom the service is requested meets the requirements and, if so, will coordinate the provision with Suara. The type and degree of disability must be demonstrated through the accreditation card or the recognition certificate.

A respite for families

The aim of this new service is to accompany people with disabilities in a professionalized way outside the home who, as a consequence of the exceptional situation of confinement, may present behavioral changes. At the same time, they also want to offer their families some time to breathe and  make it easier for them to carry out tasks that are difficult to combine with caring for the person with a disability: going shopping, making arrangements, holding telematic meetings, attending to other people at home, etc.

The program complies with the conditions imposed by the Spanish Government in the state of alarm. As established in the instruction issued by the Ministry of Health on March 19, persons with disabilities who present behavioral disturbances can make the necessary trips as long as the infection prevention measures are respected.
