In Chile, new guide for people with disabilities and Covid-19

People with cognitive disabilities need to have explanations that allow them to understand in a simple and illustrative way the changes they may experience in their daily lives, after the sanitary measures adopted by the country’s authorities to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Therefore, the Descúbreme Foundation developed three guides that provide recommendations for people with disabilities, their families and employers in order to contribute to preventive measures in the face of this pandemic. In addition, the entity freely provided these contents through its website.

In this way, the “Guide for Employers” addresses different recommendations for maintaining an active working relationship with people with disabilities, including suggestions such as the necessary work and hygiene equipment, tips for maintaining dialogue with them and considering facilitating transportation methods. in case they cannot implement the telework system.

According to Andrés Beroggi, manager of Business Management and Diversity of Descúbreme Foundation, “the call to employers is to make the necessary adjustments so that people with disabilities can exercise their right to work in the context of a health emergency.” In addition, he added that “people hired under Law 21,015 must receive the same treatment as their non-disabled co-workers, since both are governed by the Labor Code.”
