Commission calls Sri Lanka government to use sign language interpreters in COVID-19 broadcasts

Human Rights Commission in Sri Lanka is calling the government to adopts various measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus and provide sign language interpreters for COVID-19 broadcasts.

However, since these news and government announcements are not broadcast in sign language, people who are deaf or hard of hearing are facing challenges to receive the coronavirus information.

The Human Rights Commission requests the government to consider the issues of people with hearing disabilities and notify all Rupavahini channels to use sign language as well when broadcasting the news, government announcements and special news on TV.

The Commision requests the government to promptly intervene in the matter and inform them about it.
