The Superintendency of Health Services, a public body responsible for controlling social works and companies that offer private health coverage, eliminated some benefits to support the education of children with disabilities, the Civil Association for Equality Justice (ACIJ) denounced in a statement.

Through a resolution published in the Official Gazette, the agency significantly reduced the number of hours provided for assistance tasks dedicated to school inclusion.

“Although it establishes the possibility of providing them through telecare and / or teleconsultation platforms, at the same time it foresees that fewer hours will be covered than before the compulsory social isolation” in force for almost three weeks, specified the ACIJ.

The decrease in time allocated to children with disabilities during this time of confinement marked by the new coronavirus, implies that a student with a disability receives up to 14 hours less support per week.

In general, a student with a disability requires a support professional for 20 hours per week (four hours per day, five days a week), but only have access to a maximum of six hours “without considering the amount of time that the student actually need it,” said the NGO.
