The UK Government is under pressure to include British sign language (BSL) interpreters in their daily coronavirus press briefings, reports the National.

The call would allow people who are deaf or hard of hearing to be able to stay up to date with the latest updates on coronavirus safety and regulations.

The call was raised by Deaf Umbrella, a BSL services provider, who tweeted out a call for everyone to retweet and post on social media demanding an interpreter.

It is estimated that there are about 9 million people who are Deaf or hard of hearing in UK.

By 2035, we estimate there’ll be around 15.6 million people with hearing loss across the UK – that’s one in five.
