Panama uses captions in television broadcasts

Up to 128 associations are dedicated to disseminating official messages, and they have people with visual and hearing disabilities as part of their grassroots.

The press conference that is held daily at the Center for Emergency Health Control to report on Covid-19 has some visible, and others less visible communication mechanisms, that help the indigenous and persons with disabilities to understand the information authorities provide.

However, there are voices requesting the use of captions so that the people who are deaf or hard of hearing, who does not master sign language, can benefit from this communication effort.

The National Secretariat for Disability (Senadis), indicated that the information provided by the authorities is translated into seven native languages, which makes it easier for some 500,000 inhabitants of the country’s indigenous peoples to understand them, the official statements are also provided in Braille system sign language interpretation.

The Senadis is directly involved in converting the different messages into Braille system, including the recommendations and new figures for this disease.
