People with disabilities in Honduras benefited from government programs

Around 32,000 people with disabilities have received benefits from government programs, which is a milestone for Honduras in words of Deputy Minister of Inclusion Doris Mayel Mendoza.

The previous figure was only 12,000 beneficiaries, that implies an exponential increase and each year is improved, for example, with the Disability Bonus and also in terms of job opportunities with entrepreneurship, sport and art fairs.

Never before has such a comprehensive strategy been implemented in the country, although in the view of the Vice Minister herself, they still have a long way to go and there are still tasks to be fulfilled, beyond the coordinated action of official institutions and civil society bodies.

“It is important to mention that since 2016 there is a program promoted by President Juan Orlando Hernandez and the first lady, Ana García de Hernandez, which is Honduras for All, which has allowed us to tour 263 municipalities to identify people with disability and know which one prevails,” she said.

While 32,000 Hondurans are already benefiting, the needs are growing, especially considering that a high percentage of people with diabetes and high blood pressure will be part of people with disabilities.

With Honduras for All, 71,500 people with disabilities have been identified. The idea of Hernandez’s government is to have friendly cities, as well as friendly businesses.
