The construction of a cottage village for wheelchairs users has begun near Kaliningrad, the press service of the Kaliningrad Regional Government reported. Over 52 million rubles (700 000 euro) have been allocated for its construction.
As has been reported earlier, in November last year, the construction of a wheelchair manufacturing plant began in the Kaliningrad Region. It will produce various rehabilitation equipment, including electric wheelchairs. Construction of the enterprise is planned to be completed in the spring of 2020.
The initiator of the construction of the Observer factory is a social entrepreneur Roman Aranin, who himself is a wheelchair user. The large-scale project is funded by the Government of the Kaliningrad Region and a grant from the European Union. The project organisers also borrowed 60 million rubles from the Industrial Development Fund of the Kaliningrad Region.
Among future employees there are wheelchair users who now live in houses where there is no accessible environment. They will be relocated to houses under construction within walking distance from work. Instead of a person with a disability living in an institution, they will have jobs. In the future, the factory will be ready to accept people with disabilities from all over Russia. “If necessary, we are ready to provide professional retraining and help with employment, ”said Roman Aranin. The cottage village near Kaliningrad for wheelchair users is planned to be built within 2 years.
